Thursday, March 22, 2018

What makes the difference between great leaders and the rest?  I don’t think it is one thing, and not always the same thing for everyone, but I do think it is in transition.  ..

The kitchen table of innovation

Thursday, October 16, 2014

The heartbeat of a home is usually the kitchen table. It is where people gather around for meals, homework, coffee. It draws people in and it invites conversation.  I have noticed that, just like a kitchen table is the pulse of a home, most innovation studios that are flowing have a similar gathering spot for their designers and staff.  One design leader I know told me it is the absolutely first thing she does when she  moves into a new studio--to put a table in a central spot that invites pausing, conversation, sharing of ideas and meals. Recent research suggests the long "go to innovation tool" of brainstorming doesn't work*.  How can that be? ..

Your Genius is Needed

Friday, October 18, 2013

It is an uncomfortable thought for many to think "your genius is needed."  And yet, it is.  We only use 10% of our brains and yet we have massive problems facing our country, our businesses, our lives--you name it.  Can we really expect more out of ourselves?    ..
